Shoreline map of the whole Cape Cod peninsula in pale ivory and steel blue, with Cape Cod Bay curving inside the hook and the title CAPE COD in the lower band

Cape Cod is a hook of land that curls from the Massachusetts mainland into the Atlantic, with Cape Cod Bay inside the bend. The posters below show the whole peninsula, the curled Outer Cape, and the streets of downtown Provincetown at its tip.

The maps below are real exports from the Carto-Art editor. Each one keeps its complete composition, framing, palette, typography and title, behind a customization link that loads it into the editor. Move the frame, change the title, or swap the colours, then download the result. The map data comes from OpenStreetMap, and the exports keep that attribution in the image.

The whole peninsula, from the Canal to the tip

For a hallway wall that shows where the Cape sits in the state.

The frame holds the whole peninsula. Cape Cod Bay lies on the north-west side and Nantucket Sound and the Atlantic on the south and east. The Cape Cod Canal shows as a thin channel across the base on the left. This is a shoreline-only version: no streets, no labels, so the coast does the work. It uses the ivory and warm grey palette with a paper texture and a classic serif title. The islands at the bottom edge sit behind the title band.

The Outer Cape hook

For a wall that rewards a closer look at the bend of the Cape.

This frame runs from Provincetown at the curled tip on the upper left to Wellfleet at the lower right. The water inside the hook is Cape Cod Bay and the open water outside it is the Atlantic. It is also shoreline only, in a teal and ivory palette with a clean sans-serif title. The coordinates print under the subtitle, which suits a poster that is about a place rather than a town.

Provincetown downtown at street-name scale

For a dark wall, or for someone who knows the town.

Commercial Street runs along the harbour edge, Route 6 cuts diagonally across the top of the frame, and the grid behind the shore carries names such as Bradford Street and Cottage Street. The palette is dark, with a gold frame and navy water, and the title is set in a condensed capital face. It is a square frame. The town name is the title, so the map does not repeat it as a label.

Make the map yours

Every map in this post can be changed. Work in this order:

  1. Set the framing. On the whole-peninsula poster, keep the Canal and the hook inside the frame. The title covers the bottom fifth, so the islands at the bottom edge can be cropped without losing the Cape. On the Outer Cape, move the centre north to bring Provincetown closer to the middle of the frame.
  2. Choose your colours. The ivory and watercolour palettes suit Cape Cod's pale sand and salt water. The dark palette suits the town square better than the whole peninsula. Some blueprint and obsidian palettes render the bay purple, so check the water before you export.
  3. Add a title. Personal titles that fit this place include CAPE COD BAY, THE OUTER CAPE, THE HOOK, or PROVINCETOWN HARBOR.
  4. Inspect the result. Look at small street names and the edges of the frame before exporting, especially on the Provincetown square.

Downloading and printing your map

Carto-Art exports your map as a digital PNG image. You can print the file at home or send it to a print provider. A download does not include a physical poster or frame.

Choose your intended paper size before exporting and match the image's aspect ratio to the print: fitting a portrait image into a wider frame means cropping or borders. The whole-peninsula and Outer Cape posters are portrait, and the Provincetown poster is square.

The editor's print presets export at 300 pixels per inch, from a 12 inch long edge up to 36 inches. A 12 × 18 inch print, for example, needs a 3,600 × 5,400 pixel image. Check the dimensions of your downloaded file against your printer's requirements.

At print sizes, fine street labels are the first thing to become hard to read. If the small text matters, choose a tighter crop with fewer labels before exporting.

Free exports are available within the current plan limits and include a small cartoart.net watermark; Carto Plus removes the watermark and the export limits. Your account page shows what your plan includes.

Questions about a Cape Cod map

Which poster suits a hallway?

The whole-peninsula poster is the one to choose if you want the Cape's shape in one view. It is portrait, so it fits a narrow wall better than the square Provincetown poster.

Can I centre a map on one shore?

Yes. In the editor, move the centre toward Cape Cod Bay or toward Nantucket Sound. The Outer Cape poster is the tightest framing of the peninsula, and it is centred on the bend.

Do street names survive at poster size?

The Provincetown square carries street names, so check them at the print size you choose. The two peninsula posters are shoreline only, so they have no street names to lose at print size.
